Why Fair Signal exists.

Art fairs are one of the biggest financial decisions an emerging artist makes. We think you deserve honest data before you commit your money.

The problem

Every year, thousands of artists sign up for art fairs hoping to sell their work, gain exposure, and connect with collectors. Many of them invest hundreds or thousands of pounds in booth fees, materials, framing, travel, and accommodation.

Some fairs deliver brilliantly. Others quietly take your money and leave you worse off than when you started. The trouble is, there's no reliable way to know which is which until you've already paid. You're relying on Instagram posts, word of mouth, and the fair's own marketing — none of which will tell you what the artists actually earned.

That's what Fair Signal changes.

What Fair Signal does

We collect anonymous financial data from artists who have actually exhibited at art fairs. What they spent. What they earned. How many pieces they sold. Whether the buyers were serious or just browsing. Whether the fair was well organised. Whether they'd go back.

We crunch that data into a simple traffic light signal — green, amber, or red — so you can see at a glance whether a fair is worth your investment. We also break it down by medium, show you what price ranges sell best, and give you a personal calculator to estimate your own likely return.

How the scoring works

💰
Profit Ratio (40%)
How much artists earn relative to what they spend. The most heavily weighted factor because at the end of the day, the numbers need to work.
🎯
Buyer Quality (20%)
Are the visitors genuine collectors ready to buy, or just people having a wander? This separates fairs with real commercial value from those that only deliver footfall.
📋
Organisation (15%)
How well the fair is run — communication, setup, support, marketing, and the overall experience of exhibiting. A well run fair makes everything easier.
🔄
Repeat Rate (25%)
The percentage of artists who say they'd exhibit again. This is the ultimate vote of confidence. If artists keep coming back, the fair is doing something right.

A score of 65 or above is green — strong ROI, worth your investment. 40 to 64 is amber — mixed results, proceed with caution. Below 40 is red — the data suggests most artists lose money here.

It's completely free

Fair Signal is free to use. No subscriptions, no premium tiers, no paywalls. Every feature — the scores, the pricing intelligence, the personal calculator — is available to everyone. We believe access to honest financial data shouldn't cost artists money they're already trying to protect.

Built on trust and community

Fair Signal only works if artists contribute honestly. Every review is anonymous, every submission is moderated, and every score is calculated from real data. There are no promoted listings, no paid placements, and no way for a fair to pay to improve its score. The signal is the signal.

This is a decentralised, community driven tool. It doesn't belong to any gallery, any fair organiser, or any commercial interest. It belongs to the artists who use it. The more artists who share their experience, the more accurate and valuable the data becomes for everyone.

Fair Signal is a project by Creative Flair, an organisation dedicated to supporting emerging artists and making the art world more transparent, accessible, and fair. Creative Flair works with artists, galleries, and institutions to create tools and opportunities that actually help.
